2008 Cantine Due Palme Selvarossa riserva Salice Salento doc

Recently I had the chance to try the Selvarossa riserva, a dry red wine from Apulia, Italy. The wine is produced by Cantine Due Palme. I red about this wine first on Vino in Love. The tasting notes there convinced me and since I very much enjoy the wines of the Saltento I decided to give the wine a try. I do not regret that decision.

The wine aged 12 months in French oak and the wine is produced with malvasia nera and negroamaro grapes. Two very typical grapes of the Salento area. Selvarossa has a ruby red color. On the nose mostly oak notes (vanilla, caramel, tobacco) as well as ripe cherry and a hint of plum. After taking a sip I tasted cherry once again. The wine is full-bodied and has a finish of medium length.

Selvarossa scored 3 out of 3 glasses in the Gambero Rosso. For those of you who are not familiar with the term Gambero Rosso – it’s basically a reputable wine critic similar to Robert Parker’s Wine Enthusiast.

Selvarossa riserva from Cantine Due Palme goes well with venison. At least that’s what I had with it.

On wine-searcher there are a few retailers who sell the 2006 vintage. Don’t think that wine-searcher also lists sellers for the 2008 vintage. I bought the wine for 18.50$. A real steal!

  1. I haven’t tried this wine yet, but Due Palme is a fine producer. I was in Puglia last Spring and loved all the foods and wine. Thanks for reading my blog. Good luck with yours.
