Shafer Vineyards has been one of my favorite Californian wineries for a long time. The latest of their wines that I tried was a Chardonnay so all I have for you today are some tasting notes. The 2009 vintage retails for 42$+. The wine scored 96/100 points at Wine Enthusiast.
Shafer Vineyard’s Chardonay has an ABV of 14.9%. In the glass a pale yellow color. Citrus, apricot, minerals, flowers and peach on the nose. Fruity and dry on the palate. Very full-bodied wine with rather strong alcohol notes on the finish.
The nose convinced me but the palate was not so mine. The wine has too much alcohol. Almost 15% ABV is too much for a white wine in my opinion. For that price the wine did not meet my expectations. That’s all for today!
